Quick answer
Industrial sourcing from China splits into two very different purchases. Standard components — bearings, fasteners, pneumatic fittings, sensors, motors — are bought from stock against a part number, with lead time measured in days. Custom parts are bought against a drawing, where tolerance, material grade and surface finish define both the price and which factory can make them. CHINAISPP handles both, quotes from two to four workshops per process, and ships with material certificates, dimensional reports and export packing that survives sea freight.
Buying machinery parts from China without a drawing review
Most failed machinery orders fail at the drawing, not at the factory. A tolerance stated as plus or minus 0.05 mm on a part that is 400 mm long is a different manufacturing problem from the same tolerance on a 40 mm part, and a surface finish called out as Ra 1.6 means a grinding operation that changes the price by a third. When a buyer sends a drawing without those details resolved, every workshop quotes a different interpretation and the cheapest quote is usually the one that read the drawing most loosely.
We review the drawing before it goes out. That means flagging dimensions that cannot be inspected, material grades that are not available in the requested form, threads and fits that conflict, and features that would be far cheaper as a separate operation. The review goes back to you as questions, not as a revised design, because the decision about what your part needs to do belongs to you.
Standard components are a simpler purchase but not a safer one. A bearing with the right dimensions and the wrong internal clearance will fit and fail early. A pneumatic cylinder rated for the right bore and the wrong duty cycle will work in testing and leak in service. We buy these against the manufacturer part number wherever the part number matters, and against specification only where it genuinely does not.
The logistics side is where industrial goods differ most from consumer goods. A crate of machined parts weighs what it weighs, and sea freight is priced accordingly, so packing decisions affect the landed cost as much as the unit price does. We use export-grade crating with ISPM 15 heat-treated timber, vapour barrier where the route crosses humid zones, and we photograph the packing before the container is sealed.
What we source in this category
Machining, tooling, motion and equipment. Heavy or oversized items are quoted with freight included so the landed cost is visible from the first response.
CNC machined parts
Milling and turning in aluminium, stainless, brass and engineering plastics, from one-off prototypes to batches of several thousand.
Sheet metal & fabrication
Laser cutting, bending, welding and powder coating, with flat-pattern checks and weld inspection on load-bearing parts.
Automation components
Linear guides, ball screws, stepper and servo motors, pneumatic cylinders, sensors and PLC peripherals.
Tooling & hardware
Injection moulds, stamping dies, jigs and fixtures, plus hand tools, fasteners and industrial hardware in standard grades.
Packaging machinery
Filling, sealing, labelling and cartoning equipment, quoted with commissioning support and spare parts list.
Spare parts & castings
Replacement parts for existing equipment, sand and die castings, forgings, and reverse-engineered components from a sample.
Process capability and what you receive
Indicative capability for the processes we place most often. Anything outside these ranges is possible but needs a specific factory rather than a general one.
| Process | Typical tolerance | Order size | Documentation supplied |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNC milling | ±0.02 mm | 1–5,000 pcs | Dimensional report, material certificate, surface finish record |
| CNC turning | ±0.01 mm | 1–10,000 pcs | Dimensional report, material certificate, roundness check |
| Sheet metal fabrication | ±0.1 mm | 10–2,000 pcs | Flat pattern, weld inspection, coating thickness report |
| Die casting & forging | ±0.05 mm | 500–20,000 pcs | Material certificate, X-ray or dye penetrant on request |
| Injection mould tooling | Steel grade dependent | 1 tool | Mould drawing, steel certificate, trial report, sample parts |
| Standard components | Per manufacturer | 1 pc upward | Original packing, manufacturer part number, CoC on request |
How a machinery order runs
Drawing-led orders need one extra step before quoting compared with consumer goods, and skipping it is what produces the arguments later.
-
1
Drawing and specification review
We check tolerance feasibility, material availability and inspectability, and return questions before any factory sees the file.
-
2
Process-matched quotations
Two to four workshops chosen for the specific process, quoted with material, machining and surface treatment separated.
-
3
First article and inspection plan
The first part is measured against the drawing in full, and the measurement method for the production run is agreed at the same time.
-
4
Production and in-process checks
Critical dimensions checked during the run rather than only at the end, so a drift is caught while it is still correctable.
-
5
Export packing and documents
ISPM 15 crating, packing photographs, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin assembled before booking.
